Does a barbershop need a website if it has Instagram?

By Dhan Phagoo · Updated

What Instagram does well

Instagram is a portfolio. Fades, lineups and beard work look great in a grid, and your regulars like seeing what's new. If someone already knows your shop, Instagram keeps you top of mind.

The problem is how new customers search. Someone who just moved to your neighborhood doesn't open Instagram and scroll for a barber. They type "barbershop near me" into Google or ask their phone. Instagram profiles rarely show up in those results.

What a website does that Instagram can't

  • Gets you found on Google. Your site tells Google what you do, where you are and when you're open. That's what puts you in the map results.
  • Answers the basic questions. Price of a cut, whether you take walk-ins, parking, hours. People won't DM to ask; they'll pick the shop that already answered.
  • Takes requests while you're cutting. A booking form or request button works at 11 p.m. when nobody is checking DMs.
  • Looks established. A shop with its own site and a strong Google rating reads as a real business, not a side hustle.

Do you need both?

For most shops, yes, and they help each other. Put your website link in your Instagram bio. Put your Instagram feed or a few photos on your website. Instagram builds loyalty with people who already know you. The website catches the people who don't know you yet.

What a barbershop website actually needs

It doesn't need to be big. One clean page usually does it:

  1. Shop name, address and hours at the top
  2. Your services and prices
  3. Your Google rating
  4. A book or request button
  5. Tap-to-call and directions
  6. A few photos of your work and the shop

The bottom line

Keep posting on Instagram. Add a simple website so Google can send you the customers who have never heard of you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just use my Instagram link as my website?
You can, but it won't show up well in Google searches, and it can't show your rating, prices and booking in one place. Use both.
Does a barbershop website need multiple pages?
No. One well-built page with services, prices, hours, rating, booking and directions covers what most customers need.
Will a website replace my booking app?
Not necessarily. Your website can link to your booking app, or take requests directly if you don't use one.
